Principal Research Fellow based at The Kids Institute Research Australia in Perth, leading the Epidemiology and early-stage T1D research theme in the Children’s Diabetes Centre, and a part-time Research Associate with Life for a Child contributing to global efforts aimed at improving the lives of children and young people living with type 1 diabetes in low resource settings. Key research roles include leading an Australia-wide study investigating the use of CGM to stage and monitor pre-symptomatic type 1 diabetes, investigator in the Australia-wide Environmental Determinants of Islet Autoimmunity (ENDIA) pregnancy early-childhood type 1 at risk cohort study (www.endia.org.au), the Australasian Type 1 Diabetes Immunotherapy Collaborative (ATIC) and BreakthroughT1D Global Centre of Excellence based in Perth. Research interests include the epidemiology, aetiology and natural history of childhood type 1 diabetes with a particular focus on the role of factors during pregnancy and early life. Strong focus on building the evidence for equitable access to life-giving treatments for people living with type 1 diabetes in low and middle income countries, whilst conducting research to inform future strategies to predict, delay and/or prevent this condition.
